Aaron Araza began his career in the film industry over 15 years ago as an actor/stuntman/stunt coordinator, before his passion for camera and lighting techniques lead him to a life behind the camera. Today, Aaron has a diverse industry skill set, which has gained him a reputation as a respected Director of Photography, Camera Operator, 1st AC, gaffer and key grip.
His background in stunts has equipped him with a sharp understanding of safety and efficiency when rigging for camera and the grip and electric world. It has also given him a flare for adventure as a cameraman, from his experiences working as an under-water camera operator in the Atlantic Ocean and the Hollywood cine-pools., to his involvement in working as an undercover camera operator. For over a year, he worked to expose the dangerous world of child sex trafficking across the US and overseas, in Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines (Contraland, 2018) in a production in which he was also a co-DP.
As a DP, two of Aaron’s shorts have won awards for Best Picture (“The Deputy,” Best Picture at The Wild Bunch Film Festival, 2018, and “Arri,” Best Picture at the I Dream in Widescreen festival, 2018).
Aaron is proficient in most major camera platforms, including Alexa, Red, Sony, Canon and Panasonic. He has experience working on everything from feature docs, docu-series, commercials, music videos, shorts and independent films to high-budget features, such as Avatar 2 and 3. Aaron is always looking for the next adventure in film-making. He loves working with new crews and discovering new ways to challenge himself.
